Italiiiaaaaaaa!

Hurrah! I'm in Italy! It's beautiful! And...it's bloody freezing. The first thing I noticed as we passed through Venice at 5am was the fog. Lots and lots of fog. So much fog that I didn't even realise we were in Venice until the driver announced it. As the coach advanced towards Padova, I dozed off again. I awoke to hear the arrival announced, and stepped off the the bus into a huge pile of...

SNOW, you disgusting people. Honestly.

Yes, Padova is absolutely smothered in snow. Thick, crunchy, white, fluffy, beautiful snow, completely different to the rubbish that has been landing in Moscow in the past year. It doesn't soak through my boots. When it turns into ice, it doesn't totally coat the pavement to create an ice rink (although the marble paving slabs are a nightmare right now).
After getting over the delight of the wintery goodness, I decided to get my ticket to Poland sorted. No luck as the office was closed, but I went to the train station, got rid of my bag, had a coffee and returned. Still half an hour to go so ate some breakfast and had another coffee. Got ticket sorted (though for some reason although it says I can get a Padova - Krakow coach on the internet, I can't - I need to go to another town to catch the coach. Mestre, to be precise. Just googled it - looks pretty nice. The woman in the ticket office told me to go after 18:30, but I may see if I can pop along earlier so I can get some daylight photos. Then I can say I got 2 Italian cities for the price of one...

I've basically been wandering about, and taking photos. I'm loving it - just me, a bunch of Italians, the odd other tourist and too many beautiful buildings to count.

Went to the shop and got some good cheese, prosciutto, pasta and pesto so I can have a decent dinner the day I get back to Moscow. Yummy! Am now off to find a restaurant so I can have a nice lunch and enjoy a bit of people watching before I hit the University area!
